Meta-tags are very important tool for successful search engine marketing. Search engines focus on three primary tags to help them determine the relevance of a website for a particular search phrase.
The Title Tag is one of the most important tags for a search engine. The Title Tag should describe exactly what the document contains. It should contain keywords, but not repeats, of terms you hope to be found for. It should also be as readable as possible. You must consider that the Title Tag will be the first thing someone sees if you appear in a search result.
Too often, companies or individuals focus on making sure their company name or proper name appears in every Title Tag on their website. Imagine walking into an immense library that contained millions of books all with the same title. You would go crazy and never find what you were looking for.
The Title Tag should be no longer than 80 characters and should contain words and phrases that accurately describe the content of a page. Try to make the Title Tags located throughout your site unique and relevant. Every word in the Title should be contained somewhere in the page they are used for. Research has also shown that a call to action will usually produce more clicks than a basic description.
A powerful way to quickly build inbound links to your website is to comment on other peoples relevant blog’s with interesting and useful commentary. However due to spamdexing or comment spam many of the blog’s and guestbook’s out there today have introduced the use of the no follow (rel=”nofollow”) tag.
While this doesn’t always prevent me from commenting on topics that I find interesting or relevant to the content of my website it does help to regularly post to blog’s that not only do not have a nofollow tag but also have some page rank.
There is a free tool called Comment Kahuna that simplifies a lot of the process and makes building links and traffic that much simpler. It will automatically scan for blog posts on sites that do not use the nofollow tag and sort the results by the blog’s page rank.
Use of the tool on a regular basis can generate a lot of traffic, not only from the blog itself but your rise in rankings for you keywords due to the extra inbound links. You’ll be able to find high authority niche blog’s and get free backlinks.
Finding relevant blogs to comment on however is just the first part of building quality backlinks. Finding something interesting and useful to say is also part of the process.
This is where it helps that you have built your website around a topic or subject that you find interesting. Read through the post, even if its just a speed reading quick scan and get the overall feel for the blogger’s perspective on the subject. If you have any familiarity with the subject matter you should be able to quickly come up with a two or three sentence response.
I’ll tell you why. I am SEO and I use podcasting to get my name and my message out to potential customers. I try to keep my Podcast short and to the point. My podcasts are usually no more than 15 minutes and I discuss different topics about Chevrolet Cars, Truck and SUVs, along with Credit and other topics designed to keep the general public informed about buying a New or Pre-Owned Vehicle.
I have only been podcasting for a little less than a year and try to learn with each episode on how I can improve it. My Google rankings have been pretty good and I can credit our Internet Director, Frank Davis. Granted I haven’t received much response as I would like, but I feel that over time, it will payoff and hey I really do enjoy putting them together. If you’re in the Internet Business, there are several free websites where you can host your Podcasts. I have set-up mine so that people can subscribe to it from iTunes.
I do see that I have a small following, and it grows month by month. You too can probably benefit from doing your own podcast. You can make them as long or short as you want. I even have Bumper or Intro music that I have now incorporated into my Podcast to “spice” it up. Maybe someday I’ll see some real results from these podcasts.
According to Yahoo, “Yahoo! Web Rank” is a measure of how popular a web page is based on the number of links pointing at it. When you enable the Web Rank button on the Yahoo! Companion Toolbar, the URLs you visit will be sent to Yahoo! in order to get its Web Rank (from 1 to 10). The info sent about the URL is anonymous and DOES NOT include your Yahoo! ID or any personally identifiable information.
Important feature of Yahoo webrank is helps in alerting the Yahoo! Search crawler to the existence of a particular Web site or Web page, and direct a crawler to visit that Web site or Web page for inclusion in Yahoo! Search if it is not already in the Yahoo! Search index. This is an important feature and helps you in possible inclusion in the yahoo index, Yahoo crawler is the 2nd most active crawler on the web and I feel you will have a good faith that Yahoo slurp is triggered by this webrank feature.
